Sometimes, you are not ready to delete content, but you do not want visitors to see it either. Unpublishing lets you hide content from public view while keeping it saved in your site so you can restore it at any time. This guide walks you through how to unpublish blocks, pages, menu items, and blog posts.
Things to know
You'll need Admin access to Jane Websites to unpublish any content on your site. Unpublished content is only visible to you when you are logged in as an admin.
How to Unpublish a Block
Unpublishing a block hides it from visitors while keeping it saved in your site so you can restore it later.
- After logging into Jane Websites, scroll to the block you want to unpublish.
- Click the Edit Block
button on the right hand side of the block. - Click the Settings cogwheel

Toggle off the Publish option
. You will see a bright yellow unpublished banner appear on the block, confirming it is now hidden from visitors and visible to admins only.
How to Unpublish a Page
Unpublishing a page keeps it saved in your site but removes it from public view.
- Click Admin in the top right corner of your site, then click Content from the dropdown menu.
- Hover over the page you want to unpublish.
- Click the circle with the three dots
on the right, then click Edit. - Scroll to the bottom of the page and toggle off the Published checkbox
. - Click Save Page to save your changes.
How to Unpublish a Menu Item
If you want to hide a menu link from visitors without deleting it, you can set it to Admin Only. The link will only be visible to you when you are logged in.
- Click Admin in the top right corner of your site, then click Menus from the dropdown menu.
- Hover over the menu item you want to hide.
- Click the circle with the three dots
on the right, then click Edit. - Scroll down to the Visible To dropdown and select Admin Only.
- Click Save Link to save your changes.
How to Unpublish a Blog Post
You can hide a blog post from visitors without permanently removing it from your site.
- Click Admin in the top right corner, then click Content, then click Blog from the left hand menu.
- Hover over the blog post you want to unpublish.
- Click the circle with the three dots
on the right, then click Edit. - Scroll down and toggle off the Published checkbox
. - Click Save Blog Post to save your changes.
You're good to go! Your content is now hidden from visitors and only visible to you when you are logged in. Whenever you are ready to make it public again, simply follow the same steps and toggle the Published option back on.
Note
Unpublishing is always the safer choice if you are not completely sure you want to permanently remove something. It gives you the flexibility to restore content at any time without having to rebuild it from scratch.
