The News feature lets you share timely updates with patients directly on your website. Whether you need to announce that a practitioner is away, or promote a clinic special, this guide will walk you through creating a news post and the different ways you can display the news alert across your site.

Before you start

You'll need Admin access to your Jane Website to create and manage news alerts.

How to Create a News Post

The steps below show you how to create a news post in Jane Websites.

  1. After logging into your Jane Websites account, select Admin > Content in the top right corner of your site.
  2. Scroll until you reach News on the left-hand menu.
  3. Click the Add News Post button to get started.
  4. Enter your news post title. If needed, you can add a subtitle and an author name. You can also use the dropdown to associate the alert with a specific service at your clinic.
  5. In the body section, add the details of your news alert. You can also add images, file downloads, and videos.
  6. Scroll till you reach Placement. This is where you select how and where you want the alert to appear. You have three options:
    • News Page: The alert will appear on your dedicated news page only.
    • News Block: The alert will appear in a news block on any page where you have added one.
    • Site-Wide Alert: The alert will appear as a bright red banner at the top of every page on your website.
  7. Once you're ready, Click the Save News Post Button to save your progress.

How to Display News Using the News Block

Once your news post is created, you can feature news alerts on your homepage or any other page using a News block.

  1. Navigate to the page where you want to display your news.
  2. Click the Add Block button on the left-hand side of your page.
  3. Select News from the block options. The block will now automatically display your upcoming news.
  4. Optional: To customize how the block looks, click the Edit Block button on the right hand side.

How to Add News to Your Main/Navigation Menu

You can add a direct link to your News page in your website's main navigation menu.

  1. Click Admin > Menus in the top right corner of your page.
  2. Click the Add Link button and give it a label, such as Clinic News.
  3. Under Link To dropdown, select your News page.
  4. Click the Save Link button to save your progress.
  5. Next, drag the News page to your preferred position in the main/navigation menu order. You can refresh your page to confirm the menu reflects the updated order.

How to Create and Edit a Site-Wide News Alert

If you have urgent news you want patients to see the moment they visit your site, the Site-Wide Alert option is the fastest way to get their attention. You can set this when creating a new alert or by editing an existing one.

  1. Click Admin > Content in the top right corner of your page.
  2. Scroll until you reach News on the left-hand menu.
  3. Click the Add News Post button to create a new News Post. To edit an existing news post, hover over the news post you want to update, click the circle with the three dots icon, and click Edit.
  4. Next, scroll to the bottom of the post and select Site-Wide Alert under Placement.
  5. Click Save News Post to save your progress. Now, you'll see a red banner displaying your news post across all pages of your website.
  6. Optional: To remove your site wide news alert, you'll navigate to Admin > Content > News.
  7. Hover over the news alert you want to remove and click the circle with the three dots icon on the right, and click Edit.
  8. Scroll down to the Placement section. From here you have two options:
    • Uncheck the Site-Wide Alert option to remove the banner without deleting the post. The post will remain saved but will no longer display across your site.
    • Click Delete to remove the news alert entirely.
  9. Click Save News Post if you unchecked the Site-Wide Alert option.

And there we go! Your events have been created and are easy for patients to view, whether they come across them on a page or navigate directly from your main navigation menu.

Note

The Site-Wide Alert placement will display a red banner across every page of your website until the alert is unpublished or removed. We recommend using this option for time-sensitive announcements only, and removing or unpublishing the alert once the news is no longer relevant.
