Your Home page is the front door of your clinic online. It targets the broadest searches patients make (eg."physiotherapist North Vancouver" or "massage therapy near me") and it needs to make a strong first impression in search results before patients have even clicked through. This guide walks you through how to set up your Home page title and meta description so your clinic shows up when patients search for you.

Before you start

You'll need Admin access to Jane Websites to make these changes. You'll also want to have your clinic's primary services, location, and any credentials or differentiators handy before you start writing.

How to Set Your Homepage Page Title

Your page title is the blue clickable link that appears in Google search results. You'll want to keep your page title between 50 and 60 characters, as Google truncates anything longer. Lead with your primary discipline and location, not your clinic name. If your clinic name puts you over 60 characters, leave it out entirely, as the discipline and location are what patients are actually searching for.

  1. Once you're logged in to Jane Websites, click the pencil icon in the top left-hand corner, then click Page SEO Settings.
  2. If the fields are blank, click the Generate SEO with AI button to get a helpful starting point, then customize from there.
  3. In the Page Title field, type your homepage title using this formula:
[Primary Discipline] + [Location] | [Clinic Name]
For example: “Psychotherapy & Counselling in Ottawa | Whole Mind Wellness.”
If adding your clinic name pushes you over the 60 character limit, leave out your clinic name and keep the focus on your discipline and location.
For example: “Psychotherapy & Counselling | Ottawa”
  4. Click the Save Settings button to save your progress.

How to Set Your Homepage Meta Description

Your meta description is the grey text that appears below your title in search results. It is your pitch to someone who has not clicked on your clinic's website yet. Aim for 150–160 characters and always end with a call to action.

  1. Once you're logged in to Jane Websites, click the pencil icon in the top left-hand corner, and click Page SEO Settings.
  2. If the fields are blank, click the Generate SEO with AI button to get a helpful starting point, then customize from there.
  3. In the Meta Description field, type your description using this formula:
[Action verb] [specialty/service] in [location] focusing on [conditions/treatments] [Credentials or differentiators]. [Call to action].
For example: "Compassionate psychotherapy in Ottawa specializing in trauma recovery, and depression. Our licensed therapists offer EMDR, CBT, and somatic therapy. Book today."
  4. Click the Save Settings button to save your progress.

You're all set! Your homepage is now optimized with a strong meta title and meta description. When patients search for your services in your area, your site will have a much better chance of showing up, and your page information will give them a clear reason to click.

Note

Your clinic name appears above your meta title in Google search results automatically, so you do not need to lead with it in your title. Save those characters for your services and location as that is what patients are actually searching for.
