Your blog heading structures serves two purposes: first, to organize your index page so patients can browse your content by topic, and second, to structure individual posts so they rank for the specific questions patients are searching for. This guide walks you through how to set up the correct heading structure on both your blog index page and each individual blog post.

Before you start

You will need Admin access to your Jane Websites dashboard to make these changes. Always follow the H1 to H2 to H3 order, so you should never skip levels, and never use more than one H1 on the page. You will need to repeat the individual post steps for every post you publish.

How to Set Your Blog Index Page H1

Your blog index H1 should name the blog clearly and signal the type of content patients will find there.

  1. Once you're logged in to Jane Websites, navigate to your blog index page and click the Customize Header button on the hero block at the top of the page.
  2. Scroll till you reach the Override Heading field and set your H1 to name the blog. For example: "Whole Mind Wellness Blog" or "[Clinic Name] Blog."
  3. Scroll till you reach the Override Subheading field. This Subheading field is regarded as an H2 and is an expansion of the H1 above it. Make sure the H2 here signals the type of content patients will find.
For example: "Evidence-based insights on trauma recovery, anxiety, and mental health from our Ottawa team."
  4. Click the Save Custom Header button to save your progress.

How to Set an Individual Blog Post H1

Each individual post needs its own unique H1 that leads with the primary search term the post is targeting.

  1. Once you're logged in to Jane Websites, navigate to the individual blog post you want to update and click the Customize Header button on the hero block at the top of the page.
  2. Scroll till you reach the Override Heading field and set your H1 to the blog post title with the primary search term at the front. For example: "5 Signs You Need EMDR Therapy for Trauma" or “What to Expect from Your First Physiotherapy Appointment.” This will override your Blog article title.
  3. Scroll till you reach the Override Subheading field. This Subheading field is regarded as an H2 and is an expansion of the H1 above it. Make it clear and benefit-driven. For example: "Our registered psychotherapists explain the signs, the process, and what to expect from treatment." This will override your Blog article subtitle.
  4. Click the Save Custom Header button to save your progress.

Nice work! Your blog pages now have a clear heading structure that helps patients find and read your content and helps Google understand what each post is about.

Note

Your blog post H1 and your meta title can be the same, in fact for most posts they should be. Keep both under 60 characters and lead with the search term the post is targeting.
