Sharing timely updates with your patients helps keep them informed, whether that's a promotion, a service change, or an announcement about your clinic. This guide walks you through how to add a pop-up or a banner using third-party tools and the custom code block, and how to create a news alert directly in Jane Websites.
Before you start
You'll want to have Admin access to Jane Websites. If you're adding a pop-up or a banner, you'll also need an account with a third-party tool like MailChimp, CyberImpact or Elfsight.
How to Add a Pop Up
Pop-ups are best for messages that need immediate attention and a clear action, since they interrupt the page to display on top of your content. Because pop-ups are more intrusive, we recommend using them sparingly and only for your highest-priority messages, so they don't feel overwhelming to patients browsing your site.
Jane Websites doesn't generate pop-ups on its own, so you'll first need to create one using a third-party tool, then embed it into your site.
- Choose your tool. If you're collecting emails, such as for a newsletter, use MailChimp. If you just want a simple image pop-up, use Elfsight, which offers a free pop-up builder.
- Build your pop-up in MailChimp or Elfsight, then copy the HTML embed code it provides.
- In Jane Websites, scroll to the bottom of the page, where the custom code block will be the least noticeable. The pop up will appear as soon as someone navigates to your website.
- Click Add Block, then select Custom Code Block.
- Click the pencil icon on the block.
- Paste your HTML embed code into the content area.
- Click Update Block to save your progress.
- Once your code is added, you'll want to adjust the block's sizing so it doesn't take up unnecessary space on your page. To start, click Edit Block on the right-hand side.
- Set the height to Minimum (5).
- Set the vertical padding to None.
How to Add a Banner
Banners are best for ongoing or important information that should stay visible without blocking the page. We recommend banners when you want steady visibility without disrupting the browsing experience.
Jane Websites doesn't generate banners on its own, so you'll first need to create one using a third-party tool, then embed it into your site.
- Choose your banner creation tool. If you just want a banner that lives in one of the corners of your website, use Elfsight, which offers a free banner builder.
- Build your pop-up in MailChimp or Elfsight, then copy the HTML embed code it provides.

How to Add a News Alert
News alerts appear as a bar above your site's main navigation, making them a great way to share time-sensitive updates with patients, like a closure or holiday hours.
- In the top right corner of your website, select Admin > Content.
- In the left-hand menu, select News.
- Click the Add News Post button.
- Add in your news update, for example ‘We are closed tomorrow’.
- Scroll down to the Placement section, which asks where you'd like your news post to appear on the website, and select Sitewide Alert. This will display your alert above your main navigation menu.
- Click the Save News Post button to save your progress.
Nice work! Whether you've added a pop-up to capture attention, a banner to keep ongoing information visible, or a news alert for a quick, timely update, you now have a few different ways to communicate important messages to your patients right on your website.
Note
Pop-ups and banners rely on third-party tools, so any changes to your message, design, or timing need to be made directly in MailChimp, CyberImpact, or Elfsight, not in Jane Websites. Jane Websites only hosts the embed code, it doesn't control the content within it.
